# Account, devices and licensing

> Free needs no account. The trial and Pro use one account on up to three PCs.

## When you need an account

Free works without one, on any PC and offline. You need an account for the 14-day Pro trial, for Pro, and for Sync between your PCs.

## Signing in

On the website, sign in with your email address and the six-digit code we send, or with Google when the sign-in page offers it. The code works for 10 minutes and allows three tries. First-time users agree to the Terms and the Privacy Policy and can opt in to occasional product news.

## Connecting a PC

In the app, Sign in opens your browser at Connect a PC. Check that the code on the page matches the one in Side Whisper, then approve. The PC appears under Account, then Devices.

## Devices

- Up to 3 PCs per account.
- At the limit, Connect a PC lists your devices, so you can sign one out and approve the new PC in its place.
- You can also sign a device out from the website, under Account, then Devices. It takes effect the next time that PC checks in.

## Plans

Free needs no account and runs on any PC. Pro costs $4.99 a month, $39 a year or $99 once, and follows your account on up to 3 PCs. See [Pricing](https://sidewhisper.app/pricing/) for what each plan includes.

## Working offline

Free keeps working offline. Pro checks your plan now and then; if a PC stays offline long enough for that check to lapse, it falls back to Free until it can reach the account service again, and nothing on the PC is lost.
