# Sidebar and workspaces

> The rail holds your saved web apps. This guide covers apps, groups, templates and monitors.

## The rail

- Docks to the **left or right** edge of the monitor you choose. The rail is 48 px wide, and Settings, under Appearance, sets its height, opacity and icon size.
- Each tile shows a running pill, a longer pill for the active app, an audio chip and an unread badge.
- Window mode and Quick Search sit at the top. Add and Tools (Templates, Voice, Themes, Settings) sit at the bottom.
- The tray menu has Show or Hide, Quick Search, Templates, Settings, Voice settings, the window modes, Help and Quit.

## Apps, dividers and pinning

- Save web apps and links, add **dividers** to group them, and drag to reorder. Dragging moves up or down only.
- **Pin to top** keeps an app in a leading group, separated by a hairline.
- **Mute** and **Unmute** apply to every current and future tab of an app.
- Removed an app or a divider by mistake? **Undo** works for 10 seconds, or press `Ctrl+Z` while the sidebar has focus.

### Icons

Side Whisper fetches an app’s icon only from the saved site’s own address and caches it on your PC. If there is none, it shows a monogram. You can upload an image, use an image address from the same site, or pick a letter.

## Templates

Open Templates with `Ctrl+Alt+Shift+O`. A template shows exactly what it adds, for example “Adds 2 apps. 3 are already in your sidebar.” Then add the missing apps, or replace the sidebar with a confirmation and Undo. See [Templates and themes](https://sidewhisper.app/docs/templates-and-themes/).

## Multiple monitors

The rail and its windows follow the sidebar across monitors, and re-fit when you change the edge or the monitor in Settings, under General.
