Google sign-in

Google sign-in options

Google may reject sign-in inside controlled browser surfaces. Side Whisper does not disguise itself as another browser or claim that a login from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, or Zen can automatically transfer back into the app.

Reliable alternative

Website session migration

  1. Create a local cookie JSON export

Export only the website session you intend to use. The file is sensitive: anyone who obtains it may be able to access signed-in accounts.

  2. Review it in Side Whisper

Open Settings, then Profiles & Data, and choose Website session migration. Side Whisper previews filenames, domains, counts, and ignored entries without displaying cookie values.

  3. Import, verify, and remove the export

Confirm the risk, import the reviewed entries, and open the site. Delete the source export when you no longer need it. Imported sessions can later be removed from the same Settings section.

Best effort

Try sign in inside Side Whisper

The app can open Google's sign-in page in the same persistent Side Whisper session. Google may still reject the controlled browser surface. This option uses the app's truthful Chromium identity; it does not pretend to be Firefox or promise success.

Why other approaches do not solve it

Changing the user agent

Pretending to be Firefox does not change Electron's browser engine or Google's security signals. It is fragile, misleading, and not a durable authentication strategy.

Opening the same page externally

Website cookies stay in that browser's profile. A Google continue URL normally returns to Google Search, Gemini, or the relying website—not to Side Whisper.

AppAuth, PKCE, and deep links

These are correct for an OAuth client owned by Side Whisper and can return API tokens to the app. They do not create a reusable Google website session for Gmail, Gemini, or google.com.

If the imported session does not work

Confirm that the export is recent, contains the required domains, and came from the browser profile where the account is signed in. Google can revoke sessions independently, require another verification step, or reject incomplete cookie sets. Side Whisper never receives your Google password.
