In plain language
- This website sets a cookie only when you sign in, to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
- A few values in your browser’s storage remember small things, such as the getting-started steps you checked off.
- Inside the app, websites keep their own cookies on your PC, and you can clear them for one site or for all.
#1. What cookies and browser storage are
Cookies are small pieces of data a website keeps in your browser. Local storage and session storage work in a similar way. We use them only where this website needs them to do what you ask, such as keeping you signed in, so they need no consent banner.
#2. What this website stores
- __Secure-better-auth.session_token, a cookie, keeps you signed in. It is set when you sign in and ends when you sign out, or 30 days after your last visit. Scripts on the page cannot read it.
- __Secure-better-auth.state, a cookie, protects sign-in with Google against forged requests. It lasts 5 minutes.
- sw-ui, in local storage, holds your email address and plan, so the menu can show you as signed in without asking the server on every page. It is removed when you sign out.
- sw-known, in local storage, remembers that you have signed in on this browser before, so the sign-in page does not ask for your consent again.
- sw-start, in local storage, remembers which getting-started steps you checked off in your account.
- sw-pending-consent, in session storage, carries your consent choice through the Google sign-in redirect, then is deleted.
Cloudflare, which delivers this website, may set a security cookie, __cf_bm, to tell people from automated traffic. It lasts 30 minutes and builds no profile of you.
When you buy Pro, the checkout comes from Paddle and uses Paddle’s own cookies for the payment and to prevent fraud, as Paddle’s privacy notice describes.
#3. In the app
Websites you open in Side Whisper keep their own cookies and site data on your PC, as in any browser, and never send them to us. Clear them for one site from the site information button beside the address, which asks first, or for every site under Settings, then Advanced, Clear browsing data. Apps that use a separate account keep their cookies apart from the others.
#4. Your choices
You can delete or block cookies and storage in your browser’s settings. If you block the sign-in cookie, you cannot sign in on this website, but everything else still works. Signing out removes it.
#5. Changes to this page
When we change what this website stores, we update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live.
