Troubleshooting
Quick checks for the most common problems.
#The overlay is hidden by my game
Exclusive fullscreen can hide overlays. Switch the game to Borderless windowed in its video settings. Side Whisper suggests this when a fullscreen game would hide the overlay.
#I can’t type into a login popup over a game
Switch to Focus with Alt+Shift+F. In Focus, login, payment and other site popups keep keyboard focus.
#A shortcut does nothing
Open Settings, then General, then Keyboard shortcuts. A row reads “In use by another app” when another program has already claimed that key. Choose a different shortcut.
#Dictation does not start
Check that you downloaded a voice model in Settings, under Voice, and that Alt+A is not in use by another app. Dictation always keeps a shortcut, so you can change it but not remove it.
#A website looks wrong
Use Empty Cache and Hard Reload from the Reload button’s menu. If the site still misbehaves, open Site information beside the address and choose Clear cookies and site data. It asks first, and only clears that site.
#A streaming site won’t play
Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Spotify and other services that protect their content with DRM can’t play in Side Whisper, because the app doesn’t include the Widevine module they require. Open them in their own app or your usual browser. More in Browser windows and tabs.
#Notifications are missing
Open Site settings for that site and check that notifications are set to Allowed. Side Whisper does not run background Web Push, so a site can notify you only while its tab is open.
